Disturbing Matter

I am being flamed by others on another blog's tag board for no reason. Please somebody advise me on what to do.I have not offended anyone in any way, yet that person flames me.It is not a student from 1P1 but i do not want to discuss who it really is.

Relevance to today:The Lottery

In The Lottery, the villagers only care about their harvest but not about how others would feel if their loved ones were sacrificed. In today's world, many people tend to do things their way and may even do so at the expense of their fellows. This shows how people today are maybe just as cruel when it comes down to accomplishing a task no matter what the cost, not even if your friend may be harmed.

Tessie Hutchinson, the person chosen for being the sacrifice, did not think at first that she would be picked. She seemed happy to be at the lottery as she could take pleasure in killing another. However, she started complaining that it was not fair when her husband drew the slip of paper with the mark on it.This reflects the way people are nowadays. They only want to win but when they do not succeed, they try pushing their faults to other parties.

Reflections:Unfortunate incident at NTU Part 3

Thirdly, the inability to make wise and careful decisions.David may have thought that it was the end when he was rejected of his scholarship and committed suicide. However,if he were more wise,he would have thought about his future and how his parents would feel if their son were to do such a thing.Such thoughts are usually pushed aside when people reach the adolescent stage, whereby they are more decisive when taking action. This decisiveness of teenagers may not work to their advantage however as their actions may be rash and damaging to others.Schools should teach students how to think in a way which all aspects are covered. The schools must teach their students about Win-Win thinking.Let's say if I wanted to rob a bank today and I thought, why should I rob the bank? What are the benefits? What are the disadvantages? What would be the consequences? What would my parents say or feel about me if I did this? Why rob the bank and not the national treasury? What use would the money be of?Is going to jail a trivial matter?I have an endless number of questions to ask myself before I rob a bank.A phrase my Mathematics teacher would always say,"THINK BEFORE YOU DO!".

Lastly, the inability to express his troubles to others. If he were to tell his teachers or his school counselor about his problems, they would surely help him. There is always help given to those who ask for it so why not ask for help when you are in trouble?Again I would want to express this in a student's point of view.A student who gets help from teachers or counselors are often regarded as "weak" and not have many friends. As I have said earlier, these students are suffering from peer pressure. The students must not think that asking for help is a sign of weakness.

This blog is not criticising David Widjaja and whatever is coincidental and not intentional

Reflection:Unfortunate incident at NTU Part 2

I would now state the other possibility of his assault, which is the lack of time management, stress management, the inability to make wise decisions and his inability to express his troubles.Firstly,as I have mentioned before, his computer games take up a lot of time.He is also unable to control himself as the computer games are too tempting for him to resist. He even set up the NTU PC Games Committee in 2006 and was it's first chairman. He may not have studied or done his homework and thus, resulting in his bad grades.Time management is a very important aspect in our life because without it, there is no limit to what you want to do,when to do,do for how long etc.( I am trying not to be too long-winded sorry >.<)
Next, stress management. He was clearly unable to cope with his studies and computer games at the same time and thus,he was so stressed that he decided to end his life.A person should not bottle up all his stress and anger and then release all of it at one go,as it is unhealthy and to a certain extent, scary. Some, when faced with immense stress levels, break down and cry their hearts out. Some others, however, will "erupt"like a volcano, thoughtless and uncaring, venting their anger on whoever or whatever that approaches him/her.In this case, David was so frustrated that he stabbed Professor Chan and anguished by his remorse and regret, ended his life.Another possibility is that he is not stressed at all and does not care about his school work and just about gaming.Research has proven that prolonged gaming may result in mental disability or mental ilnesses, which may be true in the case of David if this were the reason.

Reflections:Unfortunate incident at NTU Part 1

The reason for his assault on the professor may be because of the termination of his scholarship. He was said to be obsessed and addicted to a game,"World Of Warcraft 3" and thus, may also have contributed to his worsening grades in school. In fact, the reason his scholarship was terminated was because of his lousy grades in school. He was already at his final year at NTU and would sit for his examinations in April, and his results would be announced by July.He could have had just sat for the exam and work as a part-timer or an odd job worker if his results were bad.
There was also news about a student who commited suicide last year.Apparently,he too was obsessed with "WOW".Could this game have indirectly caused the deaths of the individuals? Why is this game so attractive and addictive? From a student's point of view, it may be because "WOW" is an MMORPG.MMORPGs are extremely addictive as these are the types of games where players meet online and play together.MMORPG are so addictive and time-consuming because of the sheer fact that even if you are not playing, others are still playing. For example,a class of students play "WOW" and they constantly meet up to play with each other. There is this particular boy who rarely plays computer games. Thus, whenever the class meets to play, that particular boy would be left out because he does not play consistently and are not as proffesional as his classmates, therefore he is excluded. He would then want to catch up with the rest of his classmates and would eventually get hooked on the game.Another possibility is that the boy does not even like the game at all. However,he is forced because of peer pressure, the strong feeling you get when you are not doing what the rest are doing. The rest of the classmates may say that he is "uncool"or "boring" if he does not join in.( I am very sorry if the readers are unable to understand what I am saying.I have tried my best to relate to you my personal opinion.)

Summary: Unfortunate event in NTU

On the 2nd of March 2009,a 21-year-old Indonesian-Chinese student studying at the National Technological University by the name of David Widjaja, was found dead after he stabbed a professor in the back. The professor,Professor Chan,is recovering well and would be discharged in a few days.It seems that the rejection of David's scholarship provoked him to stab the professor. An alternate reason may be that David, who had been a conscientious pupil when he was new at the University, was addicted to an online game "World of Warcraft 3" commonly known as WOW and unable to cope with his academic studies, stabbed the professor and committed suicide by jumping off 5 floors. His parents have come to claim his body and are said to be shocked to learn of their son's death.
